Approximately two years ago, my partner was diagnosed with bowel cancer. He had a huge operation and about 8 months of chemotherapy. We got through this only to find out when we thought things were improving, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and had to have another operation. When the surgeon operated for the prostate cancer, he also found three hernias!

In the middle of doctor’s appointments, surgeon’s appointments and the strain of the unknown, I, together with 60 other people lost our jobs for the company we were working for.

This ordeal has been surreal. Now we are taking things one day at a time. Currently my partner has been given the “all clear” but will still be having regular checks every three months. So far so good. I have also found another job and am back working. My partner and i count each day as a blessing. This whole experience is still too close for comfort, but we try to live in the present as much as we can!!
